Yep, I noticed that the levels (I'm only 13 with 4XP till next level, lol) only appear on your own profile, and I think that it would be good if that's how it worked. I think the levels are cool in and of themselves. Ideas like this makes Drawception better!
No, the levels are not good ideas. They're an arbitrary, bullshit system designed to make you feel like you're accomplishing something instead of having fun.
Which makes it perfect bait for a public offering down the line, which is what Reed's end goal is.
it did bug me a little coz I was 1 vote away from being able to make my own games... now it's much further away.
Unpopular opinion time, I suppose. I really enjoy the levels. It makes me think little harder about doing a better picture (quality wise) when i am faced with a caption. I also like the idea of having 200ish point blocks to reach for as a miniature goal. Ok, I know the game is not about the points, but they help serve as the rings in the ladder that is playing this game and keep me coming back. In a way I don't see my score as being "2100 points" but more like "2100 instances where players thought I was creative, clever, or talented." But that's just me I guess.
I'm liking the levels too. I always looked at points as more of a competition with myself than a status symbol. I had stepped away from the game for a few weeks, but now I'm finding myself motivated to come back and try to reach the next level. If my latest drawing wasn't enough to push me over, it's time to do more!
I was always a bit of an achievement junkie in games, so leveling works with my mind. I've always liked the points (I like the idea that something I drew might have given someone a quick smile), and having the leveling system while still being able to see the points gives it an extra dimension.
I'm not even a high level but I do appreciate points. It gives people good reason to try their hardest :)
Plus if you think about it, life is a huge competition, so why not have a little fun competition on here?
I should add that I don't see the points as the main goal of the game, but I do like the idea as a little mini-game next to the drawing/captioning. It makes me feel a little more connected to the other players, whether I'm reacting to something they've done or they're reacting to my stuff.
The one thing I dont like is its a little harder to tell what people's actual points are. I mean I look at a level 19 and I dont know if they have 100 points or 2000. Also, seeing the max level at 60 isnt quite as impressive as seeing over 10,000.
I think the levels give a good enough idea of how good the player is, you don't need to know each and every single little point they've ever got. If someone's level 15 for example (coz that's mine) you'd know that they have points between around 310 to 370. And then you'd be able to tell. Like how you can tell that if someone's level is over 30 you'd know that their points are above 1000 or 2000.
