I thought Sailor scouts last well, at least on certain hours, and they do make top games even. I try to jump on the chance when I see a planet name to continue a Sailor theme.

Anything resembling just about any red superhero will almost never have continuity throughout a game. But it will no doubt be hilarious.

Hank Hill sometimes lasts almost a whole game, sometimes turns into "nerd" or similar in a panel or two. Homestuck characters rarely make it past panel 2. Few people recognize man Faye, either :(

IME, Sailor Moon often stays for at least several panels. She's one of the more recognizable anime characters - even if you don't like anime, you probably would recognize Sailor Moon.

99% of any given anime characters will never get past the second panel/dustcatcher - Sailor Moon is an exception, anything from Dragonball tends to stick, Naruto also has lasting power. Dunno about any else.

This thread inspired me to test the ground by creating a batch of games on my descriptions account that star a certain character, and see how she transforms throughout the game. I'll probably do that after the current games finish. It might be fascinating to see how it turns out. Hint: it actually derives from Game 1 of this diagram here: http://i.imgur.com/CJt2H.jpg ... I know I have had my Ultimecias identified as such in the past, but none of my Juris have been spotted to this date.

With that aside, I would agree with VIVIT that most anime characters might not make it past panel 2. I would also say the lesser popular characters of mainstream franchises. I tend to stick Lightning from FFXIII as a cameo in some cases but she rarely gets referenced by name (and when she does, she just turns into a lightning bolt by the next drawing), but my Cloud Strifes would get more notice.

Characters from lesser-known video games usually don't last very long, even if they're from a great series such as Monster Hunter. But it looks like it has gotten a bit better for Link. He doesn't seem to get mistaken for Zelda as often anymore. :)

But I find it more surprising when references survive that I never would have gotten. This happens a lot with TV shows or songs...

I try to sneak in Darkstalkers when I can. The times I drew Sasquatch at least were recognized....

I'm sneaking in Guilty Gear (Ky Kiske in particular) on a regular basis, and some Black Rock Shooters as well. Actually got picked up once by a describer, and a few more times in post-game.

But you can believe that 99% of the drawn BRSes in this game happen because I get asked to draw an anime girl, or girl, or whatever.

Just checked, ten times Black Rock Shooter and also just her coat once. Not counting my avatar and my old avatar, since they were both sandbox.
