I think that insults and mockery on websites are not supposed to be taken seriously. I think it is meant as playful teasing, like one would expect from a buddy. It is as if we are meant to assume that all of us together on the same website are a group of friends.
Oh well, if this is the case... then you can all go fuck yourselves.
If my friends talked to me like a lot of people on the internet did, I would be a very lonely person. By choice.
Your mother shouldn't be taken seriously!! Your face shouldn't be taken seriously!! ; > )
I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
You guys are dumb.
@Shparks Well, some of it is and some of it isn't. Mostly people can tell which they are dealing with, but not always. The thing is though, that I doubt anyone could adequately describe how to tell which situation is which although most people can tell by their gut. If you don't have the ear for it, it must make life tough.
I hope my post didn't offend anyone, I meant it as a joke. Well, to the point of this thread:
@Shparks I think you are being excessively otimist about this. 90% of the time, people are probably just being pricks because they feel safe behind a computer.
@Shparks - said .... It is as if we are meant to assume that all of us together on the same website are a group of friends....
Please dont ever assume that. The internet is full of nefarious people looking for ones who do believe that, and it doesnt end well for them.
Tone is almost impossible to portray in written form. For example; When using sarcasm, the tone of voice and the drawl of the words is what make it recognized as being sarcastic.
Oh, well then, I must have been wrong about Crackson. He was my friend the whole time.....O_o
I just got here (Noob!), but having spent lots of time on silly gaming sites, it seems both sides are true at different times. Tons of playful teasing and tons of trolls. Judging by the tone I pick up on this particular thread, everyone who responded so far is quite friendly. Nice!
I'm not your friend, buddy!
I'm not your buddy, pal.
I'm not your pal, amigo!
Optimistic or not, it is pretty much the best way to look at it. In this way you choose to not get offended by their insults.
I'm not your amigo, comrade!
@Rody that makes sense. Maybe if we all acted like that, even if we don't really believe that people are being friendly, this place would eventually become more friendly. Fake it till you make it.
All of your cats have homosexual tendencies, not that that's bad thing.
Am I doing this 'insult' thing correctly? :P Sometimes insults lead to good things. Like, not too long ago, when Neill and I developed a stronger acquaintance due to some ridiculous blows we took at each other.
Behavioral scientists say that teasing is a positive aspect of human interaction.
Bazinga.
Doesn't the teasing have to be coupled with some sort of non-teasing interaction for that to apply fully?
