Hall of Fame

Some players come and go. These players will likely fade into obscurity. I propose a user-nominated Hall of Fame section where our heroes can be preserved without necessitating the drive and free time of a drawing lunatic in a bid to secure All Time rank.

You know who you are... Nyancatimusprime. :]

Obvious downsides include the integrity of the nominations, do these players deserve HoF status, etc.

I dunno, that just gives people yet another avenue to complain about popularity contests and how only good drawings get points, ad nausea.

The Hall of Fame would invalidate some complaints, because it wouldn't have anything to do with points. It WOULD have to do with popularity and how well you draw, treat others on the forums, in the comments, etc.

Maybe if the people like someone enough, that person might be nominated purely by how good of a person they are to others. Not that art or descriptions aren't important here, of course.

It wouldn't be so automatic like the Leaderboard. There would be a very human, deliberate decision happening to immortalise a fellow player.

Or you could just play the game forever and try to make the Leaderboard.

I don't know about this one.

This would totally validate complaints about "Popularity Contests" and how "Only Artists get points".

It would also promote attention whores to ..well... Do their thing.

Yeah im not sure either, and what are you talking about? FeliciaDay has taught us that you don't even have to play to forever stay in the leaderboards.

And depending in the community to decide who deserves a spot in the hall of fame, sounds even more like a mess.

I looked at her profile and she doesn't have that many points. It must factor in points per game played or something like that?

I think it has to do with people who follow the player vs time accumulated but Im not certain on that

Either way, there isn't really any cycling of people in that all time high, and there's definitely not much cycling going on in the top current players either.

The top current players don't cycle because not everyone has the time and/or the drive to produce valuable content on a regular basis. It's not so much about there being a "higher tier" of players or a "lower tier". Some players simply don't have the skill or the resources to compete.

My main concern is that nominations would basically just act like points. A lot of people are fed up with points, and nominations would do nothing to help that. So I agree, the Hall of Fame wouldn't add any value to Drawception. We already have one.

The system is broken because people feel it's broken. But people have always been responsible for their own "popularity". Popularity comes naturally when you act like a good person and bring value to the community. Trying to fix the game so people "just" become popular or popular players are obscured in favour of everybody else is contrary to the nature of community.

I definitely agree with everything you just said. Well put.
