draw/caption only choice

It would be neat if a member could choose to only caption games in progress or only draw. I personally do like to draw, but there are some instances that I would like to simply caption, and skipping a lot of games to get to a drawing to caption is time consuming and wasteful really. :) Of course, this could always be changed when you wanted to do the opposite, or both. Just a suggestion- I think it would be used???

Problem with that is people who like to alternate drawing and describing would never get to caption. If you could only caption, one person could blow through a LOT of them and basically hog it.

Simple solution would be to just let it be a personal setting to have just drawings, just captions, or both. No one would have to commit to one or the other forever, but if you're in the mood to draw, select for only captions to be shown and vice versa. Or both if you like. Not a bad idea.

If I am in a caption mood, I just hit skip till I come onto one (especially when I leave my tablet at work). It normally takes about 30 seconds for me to come upon a caption.

Really I'd rather see some sneaky matchmaking algorithm at the background that ensures that people have a roughly 50/50 chance of drawing or describing. skips or no skips.

I mean this in the sense that someone who constantly skips to describe, will get progressively less describe panels to even things out. vice versa for drawing.

So that all players can get more or less the same amount of draws and describes.

@ Tigermave- I meant on your profile to have a toggle switch where you could choose to just caption for that session, just draw, or both. Default settings would have you do both automatically, but you would have the option to choose, and then the option to choose again if desired. I hope that makes sense.

I sort of feel both ways about this. Caption only would be useful for when I'm on my phone and can't actually draw.

@Dizzydezy, sorry, should have been more specific. I meant that if a bunch of people are set to only caption, they will play tons of games at warp speed because it is much quicker to caption then draw. This means that anybody who has it set to draw AND caption will be very unlikely to actually caption anything, because of the caption-only players taking all the panels as soon as they show up.

@Rody, the problem with that is that drawing takes so much longer than describing so it's actually impossible to get a 50/50 on captioning versus drawing.

@Tigermave but if I'm skipping panels to find ones to caption because I don't want to draw at some point in time, I'm still going through them pretty damn quick. I'm not sure it'd be a huge difference in the amount of time it takes if it was only showing me drawings to caption.

@Butterbuns True! I agree. There are so many games going at one point in time that I don't really think the caption/only would be an issue. Besides, I think that most people are here to draw anyhow- right? I personally would only use a "caption only" feature when I don't have a lot of time- or like TeaBerryBlue said, when I am on my phone and drawing is difficult.

Yes, but as it is I barely get to caption as it is with the way the setup is now. If a group of people are able to only caption, it basically makes it 100% that anybody who enjoys doing both would not be captioning anything.

With the new "games in progress" feature, you can see that despite having 3,000 games in progress, they are setup to finish the older games first before new games are started. I have had a game on 1 of 15 panels for several days while the other games finish up. And I've hit a prompt saying there were no games to play at the moment... so it definitely would an issue, in my opinion, but only Reed truly knows all the behind the scenes structure of the game. Be cool if he could chime in.

See, there is absolutely no reason NOT to implement this. It would be simple to code and you would be able to turn the feature on or off depending on whether a person wants it.

Did you even read ANY of the previous posts?

I like the idea. When we click "Play" it asks us if we want to "Draw" "Caption" or "Both" and then we only get those requests until the next time we hit play or log in.

Sometimes I just want to caption. Other times I want to do both. I rarely want to just draw, but there are some who do.
