I know the blog exists for this purpose, but a lot of newer users don't check the blog to see what's going on.
Why not also have a sticky thread that only you, Reed, can post in on the General forum? You could even simply copy and paste what you put on the blog with updates.
I suggest this because there was no real thread for the Dustcatcher update; it was mentioned inside another thread that I think was unrelated at the time. Now if someone wants to find out about the update, they have to click several different threads in order to find out about it.
If you have a sticky thread at the top, you could even put in a FAQ for each. I'm kind of surprised at how many people didn't and possibly still don't understand that actual drawings aren't going to get removed via the dustcatcher, but I do keep seeing people get stressed out and angry over it when it turns out it's not even happening.
Dustscratcher update?
What did it add?
Heh! See, this is what I'm talking about.
If a description panel is skipped enough times, it's caught by the dust catcher. Meaning, that description is thrown out and the game winds back to the previous drawing for someone else to describe. This does not ever happen to drawings, descriptions only.
This went live some time yesterday and it wasn't announced in its own thread. Reed had been talking about it, and then all of a sudden it started happening.
I liked it when the updates were listed on the main homepage. Along with everything else that used to be there :P
Finally I know what it is. How do you know if your description goes to the dustcatcher?
You'll see a blurb on your profile right above your current games section telling you that you've got a dust catcher panel. It'll show you the text from the panel, too.
Okay, ghost implementing features creates about 5 different threads about it on the forum in a span of 2 minutes.
How the hell are we supposed to know which thread Reed's going to come in and answer questions on other than checking 5 different threads?
I didnt even know about this blog or where to find it.
Oh there is a link under the reply box... in those links at the bottom of all pages that i never look at unless i want to send a letter of complaint... or something...>.>
Yeah, the link to the blog used to be at the top of the page.
I'm not liking these updates, I prefer the points system because it's more precise, as well as the original interface and the original dashboard. Trying to copy off of VGBoxArt, eh? Well DON'T.
Reed, please look around and notice that you're being very arbitrary as far as what thread you choose to come post in. Then someone else who doesn't read through all the threads (and shouldn't have to) comes and makes a new post or thread asking the same question.
@Reed Many are uncomfortable with change, even if it is for the better. That said, people are swayed by the mood and opinion of others when confronted by change. If you had a sticky that would announce the change as they occured, players could brace themselves for them and try them with open minds instead of already being convinced they suck because several on the forums said so. Implementing major changes with out any kind of announcement or warning is simply disrespectful of your beta testers.

Ackter, I am aware of the blog. "I know the blog exists for this purpose, but a lot of newer users don't check the blog to see what's going on."
Look at how each new update creates about 5 new threads on average. Reed comes in to answer questions on a few of them, and then that information isn't actually put anywhere else, not the update blog, not a faq about the update or anything. People ask the same questions and voice the same complaints over and over again despite the fact that it's been addressed already because it's hidden away on the middle page of a thread with a title that may not indicate it would answer their question. There's also no forum search feature.
I agree with Taekwondogirl on everything. The blog runs behind events, as do announcements on Facebook. I don't follow the Twitter accounts so I can't speak for that. I think it would be good if there was something on our profile pages to alert us to come check a dedicated part of the forum when there are changes. My profile page is where I enter the site, I am sure I'm not alone in that, so even front page announcements would get missed by many.
bump since I just completed a game, let the time run out and was expecting it to autosubmit, but to my joy- an alert asked if I wanted to submit and gave 15 seconds to decide. I then went to the "blog" since I was directed there last time I mentioned a update going in steathily. Nothing there. I then searched the forums and found a few updates in a few different buried forums.
Simply another forums topic selection that has updates and only Reed can post to.
Looks like we could use........ A BUMP!
So guess what I drove over today on the way home? Right in the middle of the road, a massive BUMP.
Heh, I'm gonna go through and upvote you a bunch for that one.
