Many people don't exactly check the "New Activity" page that often and miss when a game they participated in becomes a top game. I have a suggestion to add a Top Game badge for when it hits the Top Games as well as a Home Page bade when the game hits the Home Page. The badge would appear on the game itself. Users who participated in the game will also receive a notification when this occurs.
To make things even more fun, you could add a little accolades area to the user's profile that has a miniature version of these badges and the stats of how many top games/homepage games they have participated in.
That could be nifty. It could go in hand with an achievement-type system too. ( http://drawception.com/forums/suggestions/5175/achievement-system/ ) I actually like the sound of calling them "Accolades".
Could be neat.
that's way cool Mitra! Great idea. I also like the idea of badges being displayed on your profile page so that others can see top games you participated in.
Any other thoughts on nice ways to implement this or opinions on whether it is worth it?
One niggle. I've seen games go into top game for an hour or less and vanish once something else bumps it out. Where would the threshold be for defining a "top game" given that fact? A lot of game actually make it in, but I suspect most of us miss that, I only see the ones I participate in, in most cases, and then only if I'm extra bored and paying way more attention that I should be.
On a slow day, even something that has very few views and faves may make it into the list for at least a little bit. Every game I finished on today (and not saying this to brag) was, at least briefly, featured in those panels.
Maybe that's just as well... but it does seem like keeping this to those that stay on the list for more than an hour or two might serve to keep it from appearing too commonplace? My feelings are mixed on this point, all things considered.
I'd especially like badges for the games that made it to the weekly leaderboard. Even for a short time, that's an accomplishment.
Maybe we could make an algorithm. Place on list of top games last 24h, compared to a general standardized limit for a top game.
So (Place) + (amount of likes/favs) < x
Of course you'd have to reverse it so that you get more points the higher on the daily leaderboard your game is.
Say you get 30 points for making it to the front page, and a standardized top game could have an equivalent of 30 points on favs and likes. One could compensate for the other, so long as they resulted in 60 or more.
You know who really deserves badges? The men of the United States' Navy.
Hoo-rah.
Why do the US Navy need badges? Birthdays?
Anything that gets more than 4 favs though immediately gets bumped into the "top games". Even if it doesn't stay there very long and gets bumped out.
It would be nice to see a notification also when you make the leaderboards. I never would have known if someone wouldn't have pointed it out to me.
Games of mine have been in on 2 faves on a quiet day.
