lot's of time while playing i need to get of the computer for a minute or two, while the timer is still ticking. so i would really appreciate if there was a pause button, so i can do some quick chores around then come back to complete my game?
The problem with that is it would potentially hold a lot of games up. People could pause indefinitely and a game would never finish.
Reed is talking about down the line having some features where you can get extra time, so maybe that will help. Until then, that's the way the Drawception cookie crumbles and is part of what makes the game everything it is.
@taekwondogirl "The problem with that is it would potentially hold a lot of games up. People could pause indefinitely and a game would never finish."
That could easily be fixed. If a player decides to pause their game for a brief moment, there should be a message box on the screen saying "Game paused." and it stays there until you click "Ok" to unpause and play again. This should be done only once each time you play so you can't pause a second time. This will also prevent anyone from leaving the game while have it paused, whether on purpose or by accident, because doing so would just get rid of the pause box and have the game's timer resume. At least that's what I want to see happen. Of course, I wouldn't mind if we don't ever see a pause feature in the future.
There should be a time limit though if it gets implemented. Say there was a troll. He could pause the panel for a entire day if he wanted to. I'll only agree to this idea if there is going to be a time limit on the pause.
Protodile, that wouldn't fix the problem I'm talking about. Someone could just start up a game, hit pause, forget about it and go about a normal 8 hour day, even not trying to troll.
Then the trolls come in. There would need to be a only 1 per day kind of limit on a pause, as well as a time limit on how long you can pause.
Perhaps the game should resume after 5 minutes of inactivity after a game is paused. It really shouldn't be used to hold a game up for hours.
yes a five minute pause would be nice and maybe the feature should be unlocked on a certain level.
I'll be honest, I would abuse a pause function solely to find better source images and research.
how about the time you don't used is saved up and can be used as pause time or extra time like if someone makes a drawing in eight minutes their remaining two minutes are saved in a time counter to be used later. is this a good idea?
Do you mean to pause between finishing a game and auto-loading the next? If that's the case, then this feature should definitely exist, if not yet implemented.
If however, you mean pausing a game currently in play, then no, this feature would be a waste. If you can't sit down for ten minutes or less to finish your drawing, then you simply shouldn't play!
Or if you don't want to lose your drawing, then you shouldn't get up halfway finished to do chores!
Ditto what KxMouse said.
I would kind of like a pause button, but I think it should be limited both by time (5 mins) and number of uses (1-2 per day). Perhaps this could be a level perk.
When I play at work I do a lot of descriptions because most of the time I just can't sit and draw for ten minutes. I have drawn at work (I use a mouse and am horrible) and am often interrupted (OMG, I cannot believe I am saying that, how irresponsible) in the middle of a drawing. It would be nice to have an option to pause. Of course, now that I thought about it a bit more, the interruptions are often longer than five minutes, but, that's the way the muffin crumbles. I still think it would be a nice perk.
What KxMouse said. ^
A 5 minute pause button is absolutely OK in my book. I constantly lose drawings due to various interruptions.
didn't think of this before but can't the timer pause if the window is minimized or if the tab is switched
It should be something humiliating like "Gotta Poop" button, and then, your drawing will forever be stamped with "Gotta Poop". I agree with pause button, but I understand the reason. Somebody could get a prompt they really like, and spend waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time researching it, thereby totally ruining game-flow.
What KxMouse says.
i don't think "gotta poop" would be humiliating, it's a natural human function, still not saying that it should be implemented..
It does speak to a frustration of mine, though. It's happened several times to me where I'm working on a drawing I actually like, and then my guy calls up the hallway that he needs an extra pair of hands in the kitchen STAT! Or I'll be puttering through a draw, and my cat decides it's a good time to swing off the curtain, land on the coffee table, and tear out, leaving half my living room in shambles. Or the phone rings. Or the doorbell. I'm resigned to either making these things wait ten minutes (which is pretty much impossible for things that need immediate attention), or just cancelling a draw I've already got three minutes put into.
I think this is the kind of thing Bilal is speaking to, and I'd be happy with say 10 minutes worth of pause - per panel, per day, whatever. Not an infinite pause, but long enough that you can take care of whatever RIGHT NOW thing is interrupting you and then return without a penalty. During the pause period, the panel would be blacked out, of course, and drawing tools inoperable.
