About Drawception
Drawception is a game of (mis)communication powered by simple drawings, short descriptions and the Internet. Inspired by Eat Poop You Cat and BPT, I first started tinkering with a flash version of the game three years ago (when BPT went offline), but never reached the point of being releasable due to my job in the games industry. Then, late last fall, decided it was time to pursue indie development and get some long standing projects done. These included a major revamp of VGBoxArt.com, exploring some prototypes in Flixel, and taking Drawception to release once and for all!
So a few years and a couple unfinished versions later, the game you see today was launched on March 26th, 2012, and the response was both awesome and humbling. With no PR or advertising and only expecting a couple hundred users for the first week, Drawception went viral within 24 hours of opening the beta. Thousands of players and more than 1.5 million page views in the first two days crushed my unprepared server. The following days were a scramble to move to cloud-based hosting, resolve bugs and keep the site running. Ever since I've been working as quickly as possible to add new features, tweak and polish. So far it's been a fun ride and I'm looking forward to seeing where it can go!
I'm going to continue releasing updates on a nearly daily basis and post all development happenings to this blog. Also, trying to keep the Twitter and Facebook pages updated with new feature notices, status updates (whenever the site crashes or needs a hotfix) and featuring great games and players. So be sure to follow these for all the latest! Thanks everyone, and I hope you continue to enjoy the game. Much more to come.
